Unfortunately the south geomagnetic pole was unkind to VK and ZL stations these last two days. (20/10 and 21/10) We could see the cluster spots for you on 40,30 20 and 17 but signals were virtually unreadable. FWIW the C5 station signals were also well down and virtually unreadable as well. At this time of the year, approaching the southern summer solstice and at the bottom of the sunspot cycle ,West Africa is very difficult - thanks for the qsos on 30 and 40mx and your perserverence under trying conditions - well done!

Monitired 30mx from 1900z till 2330z, (19/10) both 5L2 and C52, who are in identical directions to VK east coast. There has been an increase in auroral activity over the southern hemisphere as seen at spaceweather.com and this has had the effect of blanking out the signals on 40mx SSB and 30mx CW. The C5 station was an excellent signal into VK and ZL from 0630z to 0800z on 40mx (19/10) so maybe this is an opening that 5L should look at over the next few days. There was no evidence of your signals on 17mx either short or long path (19/10) from 1000z to 1200z when you were operating. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for all your efforts. Please find a way to reward Dxers with manners (in practice that means guys that listen 99 % and TX 1 % of the time) and punish those without manners (in practice the ones that TX 99 % of the time and listen 1 % of the time). Usually the ones that make QRM on the DX Cluster are the same that make QRM on the bands. Real good operators dont send crappy spots containing (please do this, please do that, worked first call, easy, ...) lousy comments.

The ZOO on 80 CW was very bad here. Some people makes LONG calls ! You may find it useful to send f ex QSX 42 so only the good listeners will know where to call you. When the QRM gets too bad, send a new QSX frequency ! IT helps to reduce pile-ups IMHO. Hope to catch you on 160 also !! hi 73 Rag

Thanks for the qso on 30mx (17/10) 2015z - that makes number 320 on 30mx and was one of the hardest yet. Monitored 10117 today (18/10) and your signal was only just readable from 1955z till 2015z, much weaker than yesterday. Have also been checking 17mx around 0700z till 0800z - the prediction charts suggest that the MUF just makes it to 18 mhz between those times on the short path over the extreme Southern Indian Ocean.

Thanks for coming up at 2015z on 10117 (17/10). Your signal was a good 559 straight away. I had been calling and listening from 1900z and this tme ZD7BG was operating on 10115 from 1900z. His signal became audible (MUF reached 10 mhz) at 1950z and stayed up till 2020z. Your signal was audible on 10121.5 until about 2100z but very weak after 2030z. It would appear that the best time for 30mx VK EAST COAST is 2000z. I note that you have not worked any ZL stations yet on 30mx Best time for them would actually be about 1830z then, but over the North Pole, as their sunrise is 1.5 hours earlier than us. They also have a better opening at 0700z on the path over the South Pole, the exact opposite of what we have in VK land. Good luck with your operations and we will monitor 17mx as well after 0700z in case there is an opening one day. Cheers Peter VK3QI

Monitored 30mx from 1900z, (16/10)calling every 5 minutes or so on 10117. When you came on at 2040z and started calling CQ you were 539, but straight away you were pounced on by EU stations - I called on your frequency, +1 and +2 khz but you could not get my signal through the qrm. Signal had faded back to 339 by 2050z. Interestingly, ZD7BG who is in same direction over south geomagnetic pole was workable at 559 around 2015z. It seems that the band must be best some time around 2000z. Will try again today. Cheers Peter VK3QI

Monitored 30mx from 1900z to 2130z. (15/10) Noted spots for you from 1902z to 1910z but nothing heard - MUF appeared to be around 9 mhz in the south west direction over southern Indian Ocean at that time. MUF appeared to rise around 1945z, but signals then faded again after 2030z (am using some of the broadcasters on 9.5 to 9.8 mhz as markers) - will be listening and calling each day from 1900z till 2100z on about 10117 Nothing heard Long Path at 0700z to 0800z (16/10) By all accounts you are doing a great job into North America and South America. Guys, thanks for good work! Thanks that causing Japan answer the Asian stations. For that that bring up the Europe. Very much I hope on QSO on 20 and 160. Called you at the last night on 160 right after RA0ALM, but success has turned away. Because of noise you quickly send away on 80. I hope on our rising ( abt 23z) all the same to work. Conditions on the long path were quite disturbed today (0700z - 0800z) 15/10 Your signals were peaking up to 559 on 40mx from 0700 to 0800z but very qsb and multipathing. On 30mx signals from 0700 to 0830z were just a whisper in VK3, but peaked stronger at 0700z in VK4 which is 1500kms closer on the long path and 30 minutes earlier to sunset. Some fundamental advices concerning successful 160m DX operation: 1) your CW speed is far to fast to be easy copied when QRN level is high, 2) operating 160m with DX NEVER transmit more than 25WPM!, 3) it is good practice to reapeat (at least) 2 or 3 times the callsign of station you are actually responding to.

I heard your signal on 20M and it was about 55~52. and called you several times. It was on 20 meter band at 830~930Z on October 10. We asian cannot overcome strong EU signal. PLEASE BEAM LONG PATH AT AROUND 8:00~9:00 Z on 20 meter band. The LP will increase chance of QSO for many far-east asian countries like UA9, BY, BY, HL, and JA THANKS! GOOD LUCK

Peter VK3QI
Monitored your signal 12/10 on 30mx from 1920z when you first came on until 0030z (5 hours). Best signal was at 1950z peaking about S4 (but no chance through the EU wall) . Signals dropped below MUF from 2015z until about 2200z then reappeared at about 339 until 0030z. Only chance of a qso would be if EU and NA were to standby. Meanwhile the 40mx signal peaked at 449 around 2015z but the Radar interference was S8 or stronger even with antenna turned to null out the interference. VK4OQ was also calling you on 30mx around 2000z as well We will try again tomorrow. for country number 320. Cheers

You guys have been making an excellent work. Yesterday (10 October) your signal was great in 160m., you should give topband more tries but please work split, too many EU stations calling in your simplex frequency turning reception very difficult. Ok, carry on the good work and thank you for all. 73 Jose CT1EEB

I monitored 30mx today (10/10) from 2000z till 2230z and at no time did the signal rise above the background noise (339), whereas the EU, NA and AS stations were all S9 or better. It seems that the MUF is just below 10mhz earlier (when the absorption is lower) but after sunrise (1930z) the absorption becomes too great. The path from VK east coast to EL is very unusual as it passes over the south geomagnetic pole during the first skip . VK4OQ was also listening and calling and suggests earler at 1900 - 2000z, but based on the previous days (07 08 & 09/10) the MUF is too low at that time. - We will be monitoring 30 and 40mx from 1900z - 2100z for the rest of your operations. Cheers Peter VK3QI

Thanks for standing by for VK/ZL at 2045z on 30mx 7/10 - unfortunately the MUF was below 10 mhz and your signal was just a whisper - hopefully conditions will improve over the next few days and we can make it between 2045z and 2100z - also Long Path is a possibility at 0700z - cheers and good luck

5L2MS-SP2FAP SP2FAP/20CW/07 October 2007/09.28UTC Dear Friend, I have already sent a paper QSL card to you through the Bureau and I will be glad if You could confirm the fact You have it. I would like to publish it earlier in MK QTC, therefore I am asking You kindly to send an image of Your card in good resolution. Of course all the information about your short-wave radio work including photographs etc. will be much appreciated by our readers. QTC is a printed monthly for the Polish amateur radio operators, published since 1992. It is designed for the operators interested in DX-ing, contesting, award winning, and technical issues relating to ham radio communication. In addition, the magazine contains large news departments, presenting current events in Poland and abroad. QTC readers also receive electronic messages from the eQTC Express, with the urgent and useful news on current operating activities. QTC is a magazine edited by radio amateurs and for radio amateurs. The Editors encourage the operators and listeners to contribute to the monthly on a regular basis. Information on operating activities may be sent to: qtc@post.pl. I can assure you that each message will be printed in our magazine to the benefit of our readers. Thank you and 73’s Sylwester Jarkiewicz SP2FAP Publisher and Editor-in-Chief
